Children’s Education
Tuition, books, uniforms, and school supplies for K-12 students in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
In Haiti, even primary school can be prohibitively expensive. Forced to choose between meeting basic survival necessities and sending their children to school, many families cannot afford the cost of education.
Heartline’s student sponsorship program began in 2010 with a few students from Cité Soleil. Today, we have 71 students of all grade levels enrolled in the program (plus 14 more students in postsecondary education through our Scholarship Fund), and manage partnerships with a variety of schools throughout greater Port-au-Prince!
These students will continue to have their tuition paid through graduation and, if interested and qualified, the completion of university or trade school!

How it works:
1 • School Selection
Many Port-au-Prince families have fled their neighborhoods in search of safer locations to raise their children. We work alongside parents to find a good educational fit wherever they are.
2 • Verification
We research and contact the school, verifying that it meets educational standards and establishing a direct relationship with Heartline staff.
3 • Sponsorship
The student has their tuition, books, school supplies paid for, so they and their family can focus on their education. We also work with students’ families to secure transportation to and from school when necessary.
4 • Accountability
Students provide proof of their attendance and grades each semester, and we try to work directly with the school on attendance, grades and payment whenever possible.
